Youth and skills: Putting education to work
Abstract
An analysis of the progress achieved
within Education for All goals and the actions that are required to
accelerate the progress.
Education for All Global Monitoring
report aims to analyze the importance of education for the youth on a
global level and highlights the need to accelerate the process
through which Education for All goals can be met. An analysis based
on evidence generated from various surveys reveals that 200 million
individuals from the younger generation are unable to complete the
desired level of education and gain the skills required for success
in workplace. The report further indicates that females and masses
belonging to lower income range face lack of educational
opportunities which hampers their ability to achieve their maximum
potential. The resultant impact is that these individuals either face
lack of job opportunities or work at low wage rates. An analysis of
the survey reveals that lack of finance and failure to adopt a
universal education policy hamper the ability to achieve the
educational goals. The report urges policy makers to design policies
that can allow the Education for All goals to be met by the stated
deadline of 2015. The report therefore concludes that government of
individual countries must play an active role in enhancing the
quality of education and providing higher accessibility to schools by
implementing education specific policies. It further highlights the
role of donors and private sector that can provide education aid and
also ensure its effective use.
